we went to the Yale Archives and it was really cool. On the way back, Stephanie Matto and I were talking about something we found very interesting. Then it hit us, Lets team up and do this! We were discussing the old insane asylum in Newton, Fairfeild Hills. It is a legend and there are so many different stories about it that we want to get down in writing after having done extensive research. We decided that if we get the permission to do this then we can use the information we learned yesterday and actually go to the archives on our own time and do further research. So after discussing it with Mr. Murphy, he said it sounded like a great idea and we should do it with your permission to team up and change our topics. Please post back as soon as possible!

Heather & Stephanie,
We'd be happy to help get started on this topic. You two might want to schedule a time to visit with us after class to talk over the project and identify resources.
Cheers,
Daniel
Hi Heather and Stephanie,
This sounds like a great topic! You may want to begin with looking at some secondary resources. The public library in Newtown has a Special Collections with information about Newtown history (including a book called: The Mentally Ill in Connecticut: Changing Patterns of Care and the Evolution of Psychiatric Nursing 1636-1972, which has a chapter on Fairfield Hills Hospital). Look at what sources these secondary resources cite and this will give you an idea of what other resources are available. You may also want to speak with a librarian at the Newtown library, and they may be able to guide you to some other useful resources.
You can start with these resources and then we can discuss where else you can look in class. Best of luck! And feel free to write with questions.
